Lady Kayne’s love of music began when, as a child, she listened to parties taking place at her godmother’s house or home in the living room when her mom’s friends came over. She’d sing along to her favorite songs by old school artists such as The O’Jay’s, Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, and The Whispers. When she could, she’d put on performances at family gatherings and events.
Lady Kayne spent evenings listening to Greg Street on the radio while doing homework. New School artists such as Dru Hill, New Edition, OutKast, 112, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, Blaque, Fefe Dobson, and Jagged Edge were her favorites. She’d often fall asleep to Joyce Latell and the Quiet Storm, which inspired a love for the soulful sounds of Anita Baker, Alicia Keys, and Ashanti. And when it came to rap, Lil Kim, Nas, and 2Pac were on her playlists.
